Young Maldivian badminton sensation Laiba “Elly” Ahmed Mahloof, who is competing in the ongoing Batumi Cup - Youth International Badminton Tournament in Georgia, has advanced to the semi-finals of all three events.
Laiba, who has been competing in the tournament since Friday, has advanced to the semi-finals in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles events.
In the singles event quarter-final, Laiba faced Ahmadli Daniz from Azerbaijan, who is ranked first in the under-13 category. Laiba won the match in straight sets. The set scores were 15-11 and 15-03 in Laiba's favor.
In the singles event semi-final, Laiba will face Kazakhstan's under-13 top-ranked player, Lenova Sofia.

The tournament is taking place in Batumi City, Georgia, from August 22 to 24. Countries participating in the tournament include Turkey, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Latvia, Azerbaijan, and the Maldives.
A total of 78 players are competing in the tournament, which features singles, doubles, and mixed doubles events for under-11, under-13, and under-15 age categories. This tournament is organized by the National Badminton Federation of Georgia.
This marks Laiba’s second appearance at the Batumi Cup. In last year’s edition, she delivered an impressive performance, claiming a bronze medal in singles and a silver medal in doubles, a feat she’ll look to build on this time around.
With a growing track record of international success, Laiba continues to shine as one of the Maldives’ brightest young sporting talents on the global stage.
