President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the construction of 50 housing units in Ukulhas island of Alif Alif atoll will be contracted within this year.

The president made this statement during a speech delivered to the residents of Ukulhas on Wednesday night, as part of his tour across inhabited islands of North Ari Atoll.

Speaking at the meeting, the president highlighted some of the ongoing and upcoming projects being undertaken to fulfill his presidential pledges for the development of the island. He also stated that these projects are given high priority and will be completed swiftly under close supervision.

The president has signed agreements for the development of the boat yard area in Ukulhas, the construction of an office building at Ukulhas School, and the Ukulhas Sports Complex project. He emphasized that these projects are crucial for the island.

The president described Ukulhas as an island with hardworking residents and assured that the government would provide strong support for their efforts to progress.

Further, considering the current situation in Ukulhas, the president acknowledged that housing is currently the most pressing concern. He assured the residents that the issue would be resolved upon the completion of the ongoing land reclamation project.

In this regard, the president stated that the Land Use Plan (LUP) would be approved after revising it to accommodate 250 plots, and permission to distribute these plots would be handed over to the island council within the next week. He also mentioned that the work for constructing 50 housing units would be assigned to a contractor within this year.

In addition to this, the president assured the island's residents that efforts would be made to improve the healthcare sector and infrastructure development in Ukulhas.

Referring to local tourism, President Muizzu expressed his disapproval of the industry, stating that tourists visiting hotels and guesthouses in the islands expose children and the community to negative influences.

Despite President Muizzu's statements along these lines, no practical work on any project has been carried out in Ukulhas under the current administration so far.
