Maziya Sports and Recreation Club has won the championship of the FAM League Cup organized by the Football Association of Maldives (FAM).
Maziya faced Club Eagles in the final of the tournament. In the match played on Wednesday night at the Galolhu National Stadium, Maziya won 4-0. Maziya scored two goals in the first half of the match, and two more goals in the second half.
Maziya secured their place in the final by defeating TC Sports Club in the semi-final. Club Eagles reached the final by defeating New Radiant Sports Club in their semi-final match.
Maziya took the lead by scoring a goal in the fifth minute of the final match. Ibrahim Aisam scored that goal for the team. Later, in the 28th minute of the game, Hassan Raif Ahmed extended the lead by scoring Maziya's second goal.
Maziya added two more goals in the second half, both scored by substitute Mohamed Irufaan. He netted the team's third goal in the 70th minute, followed by a fourth just five minutes later, sealing a dominant performance.
The tournament, contested between five teams, was organized by FAM as an alternative after the start of the Maldives football season, which FAM had been preparing to begin, was postponed. At the request of FIFA, the world football governing body, the football season has been changed to commence in August.
FAM conducted the tournament with financial assistance from FIFA. In addition to Maziya, Club Eagles, TC, and New Radiant, Mahibadhoo Sports Club also competed in the tournament.
