Maldives Customs Service has seized 3.6 kilograms of drugs that were being smuggled into the country by air.
The seizure was made during a special operation conducted on Thursday night to inspect a shipment, following intelligence information received about drugs being present in a shipment imported into the country by air. The drugs were seized at Velana International Airport (VIA).
The drugs seized in the initial tests have tested positive for methamphetamine. The total weight of the drugs, including packaging, is 3.6 kilograms, and the street value of these drugs is approximately MVR 7.2 million.
The seized drugs have now been handed over to the Maldives Police Service (MPS).
Further investigations are currently underway in connection with the case.
