Naifaru Island’s Council Chief Mohamed Kaarim’s phone has been seized under the State of Emergency.

Speaking to RaajjeMV regarding details of the matter, Naifaru Council Member Vidhadh Abdulla said that Chief Karim had been summoned to the police HQ and his phone had been seized by the police after questioning.

According to Vidhadh, the police had summoned Karim for questioning regarding an ongoing police investigation and seized Karim’s phone under the power of the SoE.

Along with his phone, the police had also seized the Chief’s SIM and memory card.

While opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s National Council Members Ilyas Labeeb, Hassan Mohamed, Hassan Shiyan, North-Galolhu MP Eva Abdulla’s husband Ahmed Shahid and Abdul Maajid had been arrested since the SoE was declared.

Police had also conducted a search on Shahid’s home the previous week and had found nothing of suspicion.
