Maldives Police Service (MPS) has revealed that a large quantity of narcotics was seized from a cargo boat on Thursday.

Police said that the operation was conducted after it received intelligence reports about narcotics being imported into Addu City, via a cargo boat travelling from India.

The operation was conducted by the Addu City Police, Police Intelligence and the K9 Dog Squad, with the assistance of the Maldives Customs Service.

Police further said that the boat was searched using the K9 squad, and that a large rubber packet- containing substances suspected to be narcotics- was found in the boat’s engine room.

Police said that the case is currently being investigated by the Addu City Hithadhoo Police Station.

RaajjeMV understands that the cargo boat is owned by the State Trading Organization (STO), however, both MPS and STO are yet to confirm this.
