The number of tourist accommodation establishments operational across the Maldives, has dropped.
This was revealed by the latest daily statistics publicized by the Ministry of Tourism on Sunday.
As such, the ministry’s figures revealed that as of May 17, the number of operational tourist accommodation facilities across the Maldives sat at 1,185. The guesthouses span across 113 islands of 20 atolls, with hotels operational on nine islands of eight atolls and resorts operational across 175 islands of 19 atolls. 68 percent of the bed capacity is occupied by resorts, followed by 23 percent occupied by guesthouses, five percent by liveaboard vessels, and four percent by hotels.
Presently, a total of 63,110 tourist beds are in operation across these facilities, which include 175 resorts, 836 guesthouses, 16 hotels, and 158 live-aboard vessels.
The beds operational across these facilities include 43,313 in resorts, 2,310 in hotels, 14,300 in guesthouses, and 3,187 in live-aboard vessels.
The Maldives has a total capacity of 1,193 tourist facilities including 183 resorts, 16 hotels, 836 guesthouses and 158 liveaboard vessels. This means eight resorts are yet to resume operations.
