President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has revealed that there is nothing to be concerned about regarding the military agreements signed by former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's during the former administration of the now main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
He made these remarks while speaking at a press conference held at the President's Office on Saturday.
Speaking about disclosing military agreements signed with other countries, President Muizzu said that agreements can only be disclosed with the consent of the countries involved.
President Muizzu clarified that the agreements remain undisclosed not due to any underlying issues, but for other, unspecified reasons.
While President Muizzu has said this, during the presidential campaign, he had said that the agreements signed with neighboring India by the former administration had “compromised” the security and safety of the Maldives.
He had also said that the agreements affect the independence of the Maldives, and the then-opposition parties had claimed that the former administration worked to sell the Maldives to India and turn the Maldives into “a part of India”.
President Muizzu was also a key figure in the "India Out" campaign that was carried out regarding this.
