Dr. Mohamed Munavvar, Head of the special commission established by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu under a recent decree to investigate 21-year-old Hawwa Yumnu Rasheed's case, has expressed doubts about the commission himself.
At a press conference held at the President's Office on Wednesday to provide information about the commission's work, Munavvar said that he is aware that Yumnu's family and those protesting in connection with the case have been raising their voices saying they have no confidence in the commission.
Munavvar said that he is not surprised by the statements of no confidence in the commission, and that confidence is a relative thing.
In addition to this, Munavvar shed light on the commissions previously established in the Maldives. He said that the work done by those commissions is not visible, and that neither the investigations nor the reports can be seen.
Munavvar said that the commission will investigate what needs to be investigated, and that they aim to complete the work in a quick, short period. He also said that while there are criminal aspects to be investigated in Yumnu's case, they will not obstruct the work of the Maldives Police Service (MPS), and will monitor whether the police institution is adequately carrying out their work or not.
