The team from Eydhafushi island of Baa atoll has clinched the championship trophy in the 90 Plus Gold Cup football tournament.
In the final match on Tuesday night, Eydhafushi went head-to-head with Addu City.
Going into the match, Addu City had reached the final by winning all their matches. Eydhafushi lost one of their two matches in the group stage of the second round of the tournament. In the final match, Eydhafushi defeated Addu with a score of 2 – 0. The final match, played at the Galolhu National Stadium in front of many supporters, saw competitive play from both teams.
Eydhafushi scored and took the lead in the first half of the match. The goal was scored by Mohamed Fasir. He scored the goal with a header from a corner taken by Hamza Mohamed. Eydhafushi's second goal was scored by Ali Fasir. He scored during added time after full-time, receiving the ball just outside Addu’s penalty area, going in and slotting it into the net.
This is the first time Eydhafushi has won an atoll-level tournament since winning the Minivan Championship Football Tournament in 2016. In the Gold Cup Football Tournament, which was held with the aim of reviving the enthusiasm for Maldivian football that had declined, 17 islands competed this year.
