Fahi Ride application has decided to offer three months of free monthly fees for cars that were towed during the peaceful protest held by taxi drivers on Wednesday evening.
The decision was announced in a post published on social media by the Fahi Ride management on Thursday night.
During the protest carried out by taxi drivers, more than 20 taxis were taken into the custody of the Maldives Police Service (MPS). In addition to this, three drivers were arrested, and the remand period for two people was extended by five days through a court order.
By Friday night, about 12 taxis out of those towed for 30 days were released.
Drivers have stated that the police towed the taxis without any warning and in violation of the regulations for towing.
The taxi drivers came out to protest peacefully, saying that despite repeatedly bringing to the government's attention that their income-generating work is facing major obstacles due to government policies, no desirable progress has been made, according to the protesters.
Among the demands of the taxi drivers are for the government to stop its efforts to provide taxi services and for the Transport Minister to resign.
