Police posts have been unveiled across two more islands.

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) took to social media platform ‘X’ to reveal the details of the newly inaugurated police posts last week.

As such, police posts were unveiled in Dhonfanu island and Kendhoo island of Baa atoll.

Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau unveiled the two posts, during official trips made to the atoll last week.

The inauguration ceremonies were attended by high level officials from the police institution and dignitaries from government institutions.

CP Shujau was joined by Dhonfanu Council President Ahmed Irushad to inaugurate the Dhonfanu Police Post.

He was joined by Kendhoo Council President Ibrahim Abdul Rahman to open the police post in the island.

MPS revealed that the unveiling of the police posts will further enhance the safety and security of the island communities.

Further, the police institution stated that the inauguration mirrors their commitment to enhance community safety and encourage collaboration in law enforcement.

In his speech at the inauguration ceremony in Dhonfanu island, CP Shujau said that it was a historic and joyous occasion for the island’s residents, adding that with this has ensured the community’s safety and security. He specifically emphasized that it would be easier to raise awareness among the public about crimes and scams spreading in cyberspace with modern technology, and to take action against drug traffickers.

In addition to this, he expressed confidence that the officers and residents will work together to prevent crime and carry out the necessary work to close such doors, with the establishment of the police post.

The ceremony was joined by Deputy Commissioner of Police Faruhad Fikuree, Service Development Directorate Assistant Commissioner of Police Moosa Ali, commissioned police officers, executive police officers, Baa Atoll Council President Ahmed Afrah and employees of other institutions on the island.

In his speech at the inauguration of the Kendhoo Police Post, CP Shujau congratulated the island's residents as the police service that began with a Police Desk in Kendhoo on 6 May 2016, has now been upgraded to a Police Post.

Highlighting that Kendhoo is an island with a low crime rate, a peaceful community, and strong social bonds, the CP expressed confidence that, through collaboration between the police and the public, the island nation can achieve significantly lower crime rates.

Shedding light on the significance of establishing police services on every inhabited island to maintain internal security, safety, and peace, to prevent and investigate criminal offenses, to enforce the law, and to provide a police service with the legal power and authority needed to uphold the law, the CP said that police posts are a gateway to ensure all these things.

He said that the main principle that MPS currently follows in providing services to the public is to work with the community to prevent crime as well as to work on removing the barriers to crime before it manifests as well as carrying out several activities in collaboration with the public and the police personnel stationed across the scatter of islands comprising the Maldives.

CP Shujau added that it is a goal to provide the tools, resources, and training needed to fully carry out the responsibilities entrusted to the police by the Constitution and laws, and that changes are being made to improve the management of the police institution, enhance the quality of services provided to the public, and advance the service.

The commissioner went on to express gratitude on behalf of the police institution for the special attention given by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan in providing the necessary resources for this purpose.

MPS revealed that the police posts are an essential addition to the commitment of MPS towards maintaining safety across communities nationwide.

As part of efforts to serve the people of the island closely in a decentralized manner, the police services were inaugurated in these islands in collaboration with the island communities.

These police posts are being established with the purpose of providing police services closer to the island communities.
