Former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has asserted that Minister of Tourism Ibrahim Faisal, son of Speaker of the People’s Majlis Abdul Raheem Abdulla, has also purchased a plot of land in Malé City.
Yameen revealed this while speaking at a gathering of his party, the People's National Front (PNF), on Thursday night.
Speaking at the gathering, Yameen heavily criticized the corruption issues that have taken root among senior officials of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's administration.
Yameen said that incumbent administration’s officials are acquiring wealth, very smoothly.
Further, Yameen questioned why a president who said he would stop corruption is giving a deaf ear to issues linked to corruption within his government, when reports about corruption by people like the wife of Housing Development Corporation (HDC) Managing Director Fazul Rasheed and Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem are being widely discussed.
Despite the country's economic situation being on a downward spiral, there has been widespread reports recently about some senior government officials acquiring land and flats in Hulhumalé and Malé.
The public has been stressing that despite such major corruption issues surfacing, neither the government nor any relevant authorities are showing much concern about it.
