The inaugural sitting of the People’s Majlis scheduled for Thursday will be presided over by the Speaker of Parliament, Abdul Raheem Abdulla.

The agenda for the inaugural sitting has since been forwarded to the lawmakers.

According to the agenda sent by the Parliament Secretariat on Tuesday, the session will begin at 9:00am on February 6.

As per the agenda, the sitting will be presided over by the Speaker of Parliament.

The main item included in Thursday's agenda is the delivery of the Presidential Address by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

While President Muizzu will arrive at the Parliament building for the inaugural sitting, Abdul Raheem Abdulla is set to welcome him in his capacity as the Speaker of Parliament. However, Abdul Raheem Abdulla in a recent interview with a local online news outlet stressed that the relationship between them has soured.

The deterioration in the relationship between President Muizzu and the Speaker of Parliament became most apparent when President Muizzu dismissed Abdul Raheem Abdulla’s son, Ibrahim Faisal, from the position of Minister of Tourism.

As Abdul Raheem Abdulla presides over the first sitting of the first term of this year, there have been rumors that the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) has begun efforts to remove him from the position of Speaker of Parliament.

However, some media outlets have reported, citing Abdul Raheem Abdulla, that he is not aware of any efforts to remove him from his position.
