Abdul Raheem heads to Geneva for IPU Assembly
This year's meeting will have a special focus on the emerging field of AI
Maldives Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem departing to Geneva
Speaker of the People's Majlis Abdul Raheem Abdulla has departed for Geneva to participate in the 149th Assembly of the Inter Parliamentary Union (IPU).
This was revealed by the People’s Majlis secretariat. Abdul Raheem departed from Velana International Airport (VIA) on Saturday night.
According to IPU, hundreds of parliamentarians from across the globe are expected to participate in the 149th IPU Assembly.
The 149th IPU Assembly will be held from October 13 – 17.
The session will revolve around the theme utilizing science, technology and innovation for a peaceful and sustainable future.
According to IPU, it will revolve around discussions regarding measures parliaments require to take to maximize the benefits and minimize the negative impacts of new technologies.
This year's meeting will have a special focus on the emerging field of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Renowned Swiss psychiatrist, Bertrand Piccard, is also scheduled to deliver a special address at the assembly.
Established in 1889, IPU is an international organization of national parliaments.
Maldives gained membership at the IPU on 5 April 2023.
