Aishath Shadiya, 47 and Shazra Ibrahim, 36 have been released from custody on conditional bail.

Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that the two women were arrested for repeatedly gathering near diplomatic missions in violation of the Peaceful Assembly Act, using loudspeakers to make noise, communicating in vulgar language, and acting in a way that obstructs the work of diplomatic missions, as well as harassing a specific ambassador.

They also refused to leave the area peacefully when authorities instructed them to and were subsequently arrested for obstructing law enforcement.

They were arrested under a court order at 1pm on August 28.

Their remand period has been extended since then.

However, they were released on conditional bail on Thursday. They were released on the condition that they do not gather near foreign embassies in the capital and protest.

Further, authorities revealed that they had repeatedly advised Shadiya and Shazra not to engage in such activities in connection with these incidents.

MPS has urged all members of the public to respect the law on freedom of peaceful assembly when exercising the right to freedom of assembly guaranteed by the constitution, and to comply with the instructions of the police institution.

Several activities are being held in different parts of the island nation, with members of the public voicing against Israel’s aggression against the innocent people of Palestine.

Although this government claimed that it would ban Israeli passports, many days have passed without the People’s Majlis taking action.

This is churned criticism from several members of the public, towards the incumbent administration.
