Valencia congratulates Dhonthu on winning National Award of Honor
In recognition of his outstanding contributions to sports, Dhonthu was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Maldives Sports Awards in 2023, as well.

Club Valencia has extended gratitude and offered congratulations to Ahmed ‘Dhonthu’ Mohamed, who received a National Award of Honor

Dhonthu was conferred the national award at the official ceremony held to commemorate this year’s National Day at Dharubaaruge on Wednesday morning, by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

He was conferred a National Award of Honor for his exceptional contributions to the sports sector of the island nation.

In a post on social media, Club Valencia noted that they observed immense growth during the club legend’s 30 years as their general secretary.

Noting that he was rightly regarded as an inspirational figure in the club, Valencia expressed deep appreciation for his outstanding contributions and commitment to the club.

Valencia noted that the highest example of his service to the field, is Valencia, one of the most successful clubs in the Maldives.

The club also revealed that he is still closely observing how things are going for the club and overall progress.

Describing him to be someone who has Valencia’s spirit running through his veins, the club extended its heartfelt wishes for his continued success.

Dhonthu is one of the strongest people to have provided services to Club Valencia and played a key role in its establishment.

During Valencia’s most successful era, Dhonthu managed both the football team and the basketball team.

Having played a pivotal role in running the basketball team as both a player and a coach and in managing the football team, Dhonthu also managed the team that won the National Football Championship in 1993 and claimed the Cup Winners' Cup.

Following his contributions to Valencia, Dhonthu made significant impacts with the Football Association of Maldives (FAM). As such, he served as a member of the Executive Committee for the first two terms of the first elected FAM board and played a pivotal role in managing the Maldives National Futsal Team.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions to sports, Dhonthu was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Maldives Sports Awards in 2023.
