President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is in Antigua and Barbuda to participate in the fourth International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
The Maldivian leader departed to Antigua and Barbuda from Velana International Airport (VIA) on late Friday and arrived on Saturday.
As part of the summit, the president will be delivering his national statement at the plenary of the summit on May 27.
Further, Muizzu will be engaging in discussions with a number of foreign dignitaries.
The Maldivian leader will be delivering remarks at some of the side events as part of the summit as well.
Alongside being one of the Vice Presidents of the conference, President Muizzu is also a co-chair of one of the five interactive dialogues organized by the United Nations (UN) at the conference.
The SIDS conference is hosted by the UN once a decade.
The Fourth International Conference on SIDS is scheduled to take place in Antigua and Barbuda from May 27 – 30.
The conference is themed "Charting the Course Towards Resilient Prosperity."
This year’s SIDS conference will revolve around clearing a path for small, environmentally fragile nations to attain sustainability and prosperity. One of the key highlights is the adoption of a new programme of action, the Antigua and Barbuda Agenda for SIDS.
The visit was initially announced during a press conference regarding the Fourth International Conference on SIDS with Minister of Climate Change, Environment and Energy Thoriq Ibrahim, and Special Envoy for Climate Change Ali Shareef, at the President's Office on Thursday.
Discussions were held on the importance of the conference as well as the administration’s key objectives for the people and the country.
In addition to this, details were shared on the three side events organized by the Maldives, alongside the important events organized by relevant government institutions at the SIDS.
