Following criticism, Pres. decides against changing exam dates

The decision was made in the wake of the sudden shock endured by students due to the change

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has decided not to change the date of exams, as the recent change in the dates of students’ exams without prior notice, sparked public criticism.

Speaking on a programme on SanguTV, President Muizzu revealed that he would discuss the matter with Education Minister Dr. Ismail Shafeeu and ensure the dates are not moved up.

The president added that the decisions will be taken to ensure that parents and students do not face difficulties.

The president’s decision comes at a time the former-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has condemned the fibs told by Education Minister Dr. Ismail Shafeeu to cover up the incompetence of the education ministry officials, and to pin allegations against MDP officials due to the lack of organization on the ministry’s part.

The decision was made in the wake of the sudden shock endured by students due to the change in exam dates, without prior notice.

The final exams of grades seven, eight and nine were moved up as the dates initially scheduled for the exams coincide with the fast-approaching parliamentary elections, in mid-March.

With the changes the incumbent administration has brought to the new academic year, the ongoing academic year 2023 will end during April.

The academic session for 2024 will begin on May 26.
