The government of Maldives has called to impose an immediate arms embargo on Israel.

The Maldives’ statement was delivered at the Plenary Meeting of the United Nations General Assembly on the ‘Use of the veto’ on Wednesday by Chargé d'affaires Ambassador Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed.

The statement of Maldives reads that the latest veto in the United Nations Security Council on February 20 gave Israel a license to continue with impunity and kill hundreds of innocent Palestinian civilians and injure hundreds more during the incident of February 29.

The government of Maldives stressed that the civilians killed by Israeli forces that day and every life taken since then were deprived of food, water, and other necessities by the Israeli armed forces.

Naseer called on the UN Security Council to take immediate action to stop Israel’s ongoing genocide in Palestine.

Further, he urged the council as well as the international community to move beyond rhetoric and take decisive actions to interfere with Israel’s inhumane attacks.

He urged the international community and the UNSC to hold Israel accountable for war crimes against the innocent people of Palestine.
