Council members of Makunudhoo island in Haa Dhaal atoll have relayed the need to develop an airport in the island, with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

This was done during a meeting the president held with the island’s council and Women's Development Committee (WDC) on Monday.

The meeting saw councilors sharing the most important development needs of the island community with the president, of which transportation is the biggest challenge.

Discussions also revolved around the need for road development, improving the salary of the council’s administrative staff as well as extending the council's jurisdiction to cover the entire Makunudhoo lagoon.

Further, they touched upon the need to develop sports on the island and further upgrade the island’s school and health center.

The meeting also saw the island’s WDC members requesting the government to implement human resource development initiatives, with the active participation of the WDC members.

Listening to these concerns, the president assured the councilors that he would address the concerns raised at the meeting, in consultation with relevant authorities.
