The harbor of Gemanafushi island in Gaaf Alif atoll is to be developed as an industrial one.

This was announced by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during a meeting he held with the residents of Gemanafushi island on Wednesday, as part of his tour of some islands in the south of Maldives which he began on Sunday morning.

Taking the podium at the meeting, Muizzu announced that the harbor of the island, known for its vast fishing community, will be developed into an industrial hub.

Expressing commitment to the development of the island especially with a strategic emphasis on advancing the fisheries sector, Muizzu noted that he was briefed on issues facing the island community by the council members, prior to the meeting with the residents.

As such, he assured that the administration would prioritize addressing the issues raised.

Committing to continue the ongoing development projects on the island, the president stated that support from the People’s Majlis would pave the path for the administration to provide candid development.

Muizzu went on to shed light on the significance of having the people's support.

The president urged the island residents to cooperate with the government’s efforts for comprehensive progress.
