Rescue officers have freed the 50-foot vessel that crashed into the lighthouse at the industrial area, reclaimed to the south of capital city Malé.

The ‘South 5’ had crashed at around 9:00 pm on Friday, with seven passengers on board.

The boat had returned from a fishing expedition in Kaafu atoll.

A passenger reported that the boat’s captain had taken a sharp turn in order to avoid a group of people swimming near the area, which caused it to crash.

No one onboard ‘South 5’ were injured.
