President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has been briefed on the housing needs of residents in Faresmaathoda island of Gaaf Dhaal atoll.
This was done during a meeting the president held with members of the island council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC), as part of his tour of some islands in the south of Maldives which he began on Sunday morning.
During the meeting held at the Secretariat of Faresmaathoda Council, councilors shared several pertinent issues facing the island community including shortage of available port space, housing concerns, the need to construct housing units in reclaimed areas as well as the issue of the halted project to construct a football field.
They also shed light on the need to construct high-quality roads, a spacious mosque for Friday prayer as well as challenges faced in waste management.
Discussions also touched upon other significant economic development needs.
The meeting also saw the island’s WDC member noting that the island is home to several people with chronic diseases. They stressed the importance of providing a specialist doctor, in this regard. Further, they requested the government to pave way to conveniently conduct medical tests on the island.
Listening to these concerns, the president assured the councilors that his administration would thoroughly examine the issues raised and take appropriate measures to resolve them, through consultations with relevant authorities.
Following the meeting, councilors were gifted a copy of the president’s pledge book, ‘Dhivehinge Raajje’.
The president is accompanied by a high-level delegation of government officials during the tour.
