President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has pledged to propose a legislative amendment to facilitate allowances requested by Women's Development Committee (WDCs).

He made this pledge while speaking to residents of the city, as part of his ongoing tour of some islands in the south of Maldives which he began on Sunday morning.

Taking the podium at the event held at the Gnaviyani Atoll Education Center, the president noted that the current legislation gets in the way of allocating allowances such as the Ramadan allowance to WDCs.

Highlighting that health services in the city are below par, Muizzu pledged to establish a comprehensive tertiary hospital on the island.

Further, he stated that three locations would be allocated for those who wish to go to the beach, as well as swimmers, as part of the shore protection efforts.

Stating that the new harbor would be developed to serve multiple purposes in alignment with the people’s aspirations, the president also shed light on the commencement of the second phase of road development on the island.

He stated that this would be the beginning of projects to develop roads in all cities across the nation.

The second phase of the road construction project will see the development of 12 kilometers of road.

Shedding light on the recent change permitting the inclusion of uninhabited islands within council jurisdiction, Muizzu noted that his administration would remain committed to identify and allocate an uninhabited island for Fuvahmulah City to enhance the city’s economic prospects.
