The island council of Madifushi in Thaa atoll, has requested to speed up the unfinished development projects initiated on the island.

This was done during a meeting President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu held with the council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) members on Tuesday, as part of his ongoing three-day tour of Thaa atoll.

During the meeting held at the secretariat of Guraidhoo council, the councilors noted their main concerns as incomplete projects, poor project quality and lack of planning.

They requested the incumbent administration to swiftly complete the unfinished projects.

Further, they shed light on the connection between the island’s development and the development of the atoll airport and stressed the need for advanced projects from Fenaka Corporation and to upgrade the island’s water and sewerage system, as these issues pose difficulties for the island residents.

Further, the councilors identified some uninhabited islands to be incorporated into the council’s jurisdiction.

Councilors also requested the administration to urgently initiate the revetment project.

They went on to note the importance of constructing a causeway on the island.

In addition to this, members of the island’s WDC touched upon the need to improve the services provided by the island’s health center.

They also shed light on the challenges surfacing for WDCs due to low wages.

Listening to these concerns, the president assured the councilors that he would work to resolve these issues and address their concerns after consultations with relevant authorities.

The president departed on the tour of Thaa atoll, on Tuesday.
