The goal of the incumbent administration is to ensure there are no Maldivians left behind in the efforts to provide housing for the people, by the end of the five-year term.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu made this announcement while delivering his first-ever presidential address to the public, at the inaugural sitting of the first session of 2024 on Monday morning. This is the last session of the ongoing 19th parliament term.
Delivering his presidential address, the Maldivian leader said that the government would reclaim more land from Giraavaru Lagoon and Gulhifalhu, where land plots have already been allocated to the people.
Muizzu went on to reveal that basic amenities will be provided in Ras Malé as well as Giraavaru Lagoon and Gulhifalhu.
Further, the reclamation of land and issuance of land plots to address the housing needs of communities across outlying islands will also begin this year.
Muizzu added that the provisional documents of all the plots allocated under the ‘Binveriyaa” scheme and those allocated from areas yet to be reclaimed, have been completed.
The president has assured the recipients of land plots that the process of handing over the official documents to all recipients of land from Giraavaru Lagoon and Gulhifalhu, will be expedited swiftly.
As such, he noted that the process of registration and issuance of the registrations was underway.
Muizzu went on to highlight that the government will issue provisional documents to ensure that even those who have acquired land from areas that are yet to be reclaimed, get their allocated plots of land.
