Two individuals have been arrested over allegations of stealing goods worth over MVR one million, from the private residence of a lawmaker.
The Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that they received reports of the theft on January 25.
The thieves are to have broken into the house of MP for Kaashidhoo constituency Abdulla Jabir, and stolen goods worth over MVR one million from the fifth floor of the residence; Henveiru Thimaaveshi.
During an operation launched after receiving the report, police officers arrested a 30-year-old and a 38-year-old under a court order.
Both suspects are Maldivian men.
Officers have also recovered some of the stolen goods.
The 30-year-old was arrested on January 26 and the 38-year-old was arrested the following day.
The police institution revealed that both suspects have criminal records.
Officers raided the residences of the suspects after arresting them and confiscated some of the stolen goods from one of their residences.
MPS revealed that the stolen goods included electronics and wristwatches, worth more than MVR one million.
Upon being presented to the Criminal Court for their remand hearing, the 30-year-old Maldivian man was slapped with a 30-day remand and the 38-year-old was given 15 days behind bars.
The case is being investigated by the MPS Serious and Organized Crime Department.
