Man arrested for theft, threatening with sharp weapon
A 33-year-old Maldivian man was arrested under a court order
The suspect has been remanded pending sentencing

An individual has been arrested over accusations of being involved in several cases of theft.!

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that a man was arrested under accusations of entering shops and pharmacies in Galolhu-ward of capital Malé City wearing a mask and threatening the cashiers with sharp weapons before robbing them.

The man is to have been implicated in three such cases, reported to the police institution between 25 December 2023 and 10 January 2024.

The arrest was made during an operation conducted by the police officers stationed in Galolhu district of the congested capital city, on January 14.

A 33-year-old Maldivian man was arrested under a court order during the operation.

Officers that raided the suspect’s residence found equipment believed to have been linked to the cases of theft reported to MPS.

Upon being presented to the Criminal Court for his remand hearing on January 15, the man was remanded pending sentencing.

The case is currently being investigated by the Galolhu Police Station.
