A number of Fujian Provincial leaders have called on President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
The meetings took place as part of the Maldivian first couple’s ongoing state visit to China. Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed departed to the People’s Republic of China on a state visit on Sunday night. The state visit is being conducted upon an official invitation from the President of China, Xi Jinping.
The first couple is accompanied by a high-level delegation of government officials during the visit.
Secretary of the CPC Fujian Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Standing Committee of Fujian Provincial People's Congress Zhou Zuyi and Deputy Secretary of the CPC Fujian Provincial Party Committee and Governor of Fujian Province Zhao Long along with other Fujian Provincial leaders met the Maldivian leader on Monday.
The meeting saw the Secretary of Fujian Provincial Party Committee expressing his desire to boost cooperation in cultural and tourism, city-to-city as well as fisheries.
In addition to this, he expressed high hopes for enhanced further investment cooperation after the Invest Maldives forum wraps up. The forum is scheduled for Tuesday.
Highlighting that the island nation values the relationship it has with China, Muizzu expressed hopes to increase cooperation in several areas.
Further, he noted that this is his first state visit since assuming office on 17 November 2023 and added that it symbolizes the close friendship between both countries.
The two delegations expressed hope to increase collaboration and further solidify the ties between the two countries in the future.
In addition to this, the Fujian Provincial leaders also hosted a welcome banquet in honor of the Maldivian first couple and their delegation.
The Maldivian leader is undertaking a visit to China at a time relations between India and Maldives have soured once again, over posts on social media platform ‘X’ by deputy ministers close to the president.
While many have been calling on the government to relieve them of their duties, all the government has done so far is suspend the deputy ministers over the racist and Xenophobic comments they made.
