All official Hajj quotas granted to Maldives, are to be allocated to the Maldives Hajj Corporation Limited.
This was announced by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during a press conference held on Sunday, following a meeting he held with his Cabinet of Ministers.
As such, President Muizzu revealed that all official Hajj quotas granted to the island nation every year, will be allocated to the Maldives Hajj Corporation Limited.
The decision was reached following deliberations on a paper submitted by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs at the cabinet meeting.
Currently, 6,000 pilgrims are registered in the hajj corporation queue to perform the pilgrimage.
Out of these, 4,706 have collected and paid their dues.
Deliberations were held on allocating official Hajj quotas granted to the island nation on an annual basis, to the Maldives Hajj Corporation in a bid to avoid drawing out the waiting period for pilgrims and in a bid to improve the quality of services provided to them.
It is also being done in an aim to boost the confidence the public has in the quality of service provided by Maldives Hajj Corporation.
Maldives Hajj Mission and the Ministry of Islamic Affairs have in the recent years, received multiple complaints concerning the quality of services provided by various companies transporting pilgrims, including accusations of overcharging.
The president revealed that with this measure, the government aims to facilitate Maldivian pilgrims performing the Hajj with more convenience.
