Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef has visited the Qujing Tongquan Wind Farm in Kunming, Yunnan Province, China.
Vice President Hussain visited the wind firm on Wednesday, as part of his ongoing visit to China.
The Tongquan Wind Farm Project is one of the 20 wind power projects in Yunnan Province's new energy plan. During the visit, the Vice President toured the wind farm’s control centre and inquired about the facility's operations.
The Maldives recently announced its ambitious plan to develop renewable energy systems capable of providing 33 percent of the nation's electrical needs within the next five years.
As such, taking the podium at the high-level segment of COP28, held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), President of the Maldives, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu declared the government's commitment to developing renewable energy systems capable of providing 33 percent of the nation's electrical needs within the next five years and revealed that the current figure sits at four percent.
President Muizzu stated that Maldives aspires to generate a minimum of 600 million dollars to achieve the future goal, calling for the world’s support in this endeavor.
The Vice President is visiting China to attend the China-Indian Ocean Region Forum on Development Cooperation.
The ‘China-Indian Ocean Region Forum on Development Cooperation' is organized by the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA).
The forum is scheduled to be held from 07 December to 08 December, 2023 in Kunming, Yunnan Province in China.
During his visit, the Vice President is scheduled address the forum and hold meetings with Chinese officials.
Vice President Hussain is accompanied by Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed.
The Vice President will arrive in the Maldives after attending the high-level event to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR75) to be held in Geneva from December 11–12, 2023.
