Discussions have been held on exploring new areas of cooperation between the governments of Maldives and Türkiye.
The discussions were held during a courtesy call paid on President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu by Deputy Minister of Trade of the Republic of Türkiye Mustafa Tuzcu on Tuesday.
The meeting was held at the Presidential Guesthouse in Ankara, as part of the Maldivian leader’s official trip to Turkey.
Discussions at the meeting revolved around exploring areas of further cooperation including tourism, construction as well as renewable energy generation.
President Muizzu and the Turkish Deputy Minister engaged in discussions on strengthening partnerships in existing areas of cooperation both bilateral and multilateral and talked about ways to improve collaboration between fishermen and fish processing plants in both countries.
Expressing his keen interest to deepen bilateral cooperation in commerce and investment between the two countries, President Muizzu shed light on the eagerness the Maldivian government has, to explore opportunities for increased trade and investment with Turkey, stating that objectives for greater national development resound deeply with the people of Maldivian.
The Maldivian leader also reiterated his suggestion to increase the frequency of Turkish Airlines flights to the Maldives, considering the nation's potential as a hub connecting the West to the East.
President Muizzu went on to express confidence that the cooperation between the two countries will reach new heights during his newly inaugurated administration.
The Maldivian leader headed to Turkey with his spouse, Sajidha Mohamed and a high-level delegation of Cabinet Ministers and senior government officials on November 26 and concluded the trip on November 29.
