A project to develop the harbor of Dhangethi island of Alif Dhaal atoll has been contracted to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
The contract was signed during a ceremony held at the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure on Wednesday.
Director General Fathimath Shana Farooq signed the agreement on behalf of the government and Chief Executive Officer Adam Azim signed it on behalf of MTCC.
The project also entails land acquisition for the island’s industrial zone with easy access for vessels to dock.
Under the scope of the project, MTCC is required to conduct reclamation operations in three hectares, new harbor basin dredging operations in an area measuring 21,500 cubic meters and maintenance dredging operations in an area spanning 48,000 cubic meters.
Further, channel dredging operations will also be carried out in an area measuring 33,600 cubic meters alongside swimming area dredging operations in a 7,800-cubic-meter area.
The project also entails the construction of a revetment measuring 675 meters, a quay wall measuring 389 meters, a ramp measuring 11 meters by 11 meters, an RC bridge measuring 35 meters by six meters and a pavement stretching up to 3,052 square meters.
In addition to this, MTCC will be installing two navigational lights and 19 harbor lights under the scope of the project.
The Dhangethi harbor development project is valued at MVR 76,856,907.24.
The Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure contracted the project to MTCC, to be completed within 450 days.
