The project site for the Hithadhoo-Kunahandhoo causeway project in Laamu atoll, has been mobilized.

This was revealed by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) on Monday.

As such, taking to Twitter to provide the latest updates of the Hithadhoo-Kunahandhoo causeway project to the public, MTCC revealed that they mobilized the project site on September 2.

The company believes the causeway will provide the path for easy and efficient transport for the residents of both islands.

Under the project, Hithadhoo and Kunahandhoo will be connected, with the inclusion of another island; an uninhabited island between the two islands called Mendhoo.

MTCC has disclosed that by connecting these three islands through a causeway, the residents of Hithadhoo and Kunahandhoo will be enabled to conduct economic activities in Mendhoo.

Under the scope of the project, MTCC is required to conduct land reclamation operations in an area measuring 22,408 cubic meters.

Further, the company will be constructing a 390-meter revetment, a scouring apron measuring 130 meters, a bridge measuring 225 meters as well as a carriageway measuring 3,006 square meters.

Building an 85-meter retaining wall and installing streetlights are also entailed in the contract.

MTCC was contracted to complete the project within 500 days.

The Hithadhoo-Kunahandhoo causeway project was contracted by the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure and is valued at MVR 75.2 million.

The project will commence after an Environmental Impact Assessment is carried out.
