MTCC began the physical work for the project on August 19

The physical work for the shore protection project in Vilufushi island of Thaa atoll, has commenced.

This was revealed by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) on Thursday.

As such, providing the latest update on the Vilufushi shore protection project, MTCC revealed that they kick started the physical work for the project on August 19.

The project was mobilized on January 25, while the Environmental Impact Assessment work was underway.

Under the scope of the project, MTCC is required to conduct harbor dredging operations in an area measuring 3,047 cubic meters as well as a swimming area measuring 1,869 cubic meters.

Further, the company is also required to construct a revetment measuring 184 meters and groynes measuring 135 meters.

The supply and installation of barrier floats along the periphery of swimming area is also included in the scope of the project.

The Vilufushi shore protection project is valued at MVR 10.5 million.
