The airport development project in Meemu atoll, is nearing completion.

This was revealed by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) on Monday.

As such, providing the latest updates of the Meemu Airport Development Project to the public, MTCC revealed that it is well underway and has reached overall 60 percent progress so far.

As part of the project, MTCC has completed the airport shore protection revetment work.

Further, the company has also wrapped up the work on subgrade for the fire road and fire pad.

Under the scope of the project, MTCC was contracted to reclaim an area measuring 14 hectares and conduct coastal protection operations in an area measuring 1,812 meters.

The construction of a taxiway and apron as well as a runway measuring 1,200 meters by 30 meters also comes under the scope of the project.

The project is valued at MVR 230.10 million.

The Meemu Airport Development Project was contracted to MTCC to be completed within 365 days.

The contract was signed on 28 February 2021, by MTCC’s CEO Adam Azim and Director General of the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and infrastructure Fathimath Shana Farooq.
