An outdoor reading park has been established at Milandhoo School under the Bank of Maldives (BML) community fund initiative.

The country’s national bank revealed that the outdoor reading park at the school in Milandhoo island of Shaviyani atoll, was opened by island-based NGO, Milandhoo Sports Club.

Established with the purpose of instilling the love for reading in the hearts of students, the outdoor reading park is an initiative that coincides with the 75th Anniversary of Milandhoo School.

Vice President of Milandhoo Sports Club Ahmed Sameeh expressed hope that students will get the opportunity and space to experience and understand the importance of reading, with the establishment of the outdoor reading park.

He went on to thank BML and the island’s Women’s Development Committee for supporting this initiative.

Ahmed Sameeh, Vice President of Milandhoo Sports Club.

The community fund campaign aims to empower individuals to contribute to the society by conducting sustainable community projects across the Maldives.

The ‘Aharenge Bank’ Community Fund is a programme aimed at empowering individuals and NGOs to contribute to local communities through sustainable development projects. The offer is open to individuals, local NGOs, Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), women’s development groups, tech community movements and youth empowerment groups. Government and business entities are not eligible for the program. The Fund supports projects in the thematic areas of education, environment, sports and community development.

A total of 20 projects will be funded during 2023, similar to previous years.

In May, BML announced the 10 winning proposals for the first quarter of its Community Fund for 2023. The winning proposals are entitled to receive MVR 50,000 to execute their plan.

The country’s national bank has provided financial assistance for 90 projects across the country through this initiative, to date.
