Under its Community Fund initiative, Bank of Maldives has opened a community park in Dhidhdhoo island of Haa Alif atoll.

The island-based NGO that submitted the winning proposal, Middle Sports Club inaugurated the community park on Saturday.

With an aim to establish a space for the community to gather for their leisure time and enhance bonds within the community, the park was established near the beach.

The park has barbeque facilities, seating areas and an outdoor library.

Middle Sports Club’s Nashwan Ibrahim expressed hope that the park becomes a space to create “lasting memories”.

“Dhidhdhoo has the largest population in the atoll but there are very few places where we can gather for recreational activities. We decided to apply for the BML Community Fund to develop this park to change this, for the benefit of our community. With barbeque grills, seating areas, swings and an outdoor library, we hope that this park becomes a space to create lasting memories.”
Nashwan Ibrahim from Middle Sports Club.

The community fund campaign aims to empower individuals to contribute to the society by conducting sustainable community projects across the Maldives.

BML has supported initiatives benefitting the communities of 55 islands so far. The bank extends appreciation to individuals and NGOs for ideas and tireless work to deliver the projects even in the face of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

Bank of Maldives will be awarding MVR 50,000 to the selected projects under the community fund initiative in the areas of education, environment, sports and community development. MVR one million is awarded each year.

Five winning proposals are selected during each quarter.
