One of the two individuals arrested under accusations of holding three hostages, has been remanded.
The Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that one the two suspects has been remanded for 15 days, by the Criminal Court.
The other suspect, a minor, has been handed over to his family. MPS did not disclose further details of the minor who was arrested. Both suspects taken into police custody are Maldivian men.
MPS received reports of the Maldivians being held hostage inside a house located on Abadhah Ufaa road in Henveiru district of the congested capital, some time on Saturday.
After receiving the tip-off that a group of people was being held hostage, the police institution raided the house using force.
The team of officers rescued the hostages who were identified as Maldivian men.
MPS revealed that the three hostages had suffered several injuries and had to be rushed to Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) for treatment.
The police institution is yet to reveal any further details in connection with the case.
However, further investigations are currently underway.
At a time the case of Maldivians being held hostage has come into the spotlight, police earlier revealed that there were networks operating in the Maldives that fraudulently took a group of Maldivians to guest houses in Villimalé and Malé region through interactions on Snapchat.
