The weather is expected to be generally fine across northern atolls throughout the weekend, with rainfall expected in the central and southern regions for the next two days.

This was revealed by the Maldives Meteorological Service (MMS) on Thursday.

As such, the department revealed that the weather is expected to be generally fine across northern atolls throughout the weekend.

However, scattered showers are expected to prevail over some atolls in the central region on Friday, with the forecast predicted to be partly cloudy in the region on Saturday.

Further, some atolls in southernmost atolls will experience heavy rainfall on Friday, with some atolls in the region expected to experience scattered showers on Saturday.

The department went on to reveal that seas will be moderate across the country throughout the weekend.

Maldives experiences heavy rain showers and adverse weather conditions during the southwest monsoon as well as the northeast monsoon. Extensive periods of strong winds and adverse weather conditions are usually experienced mostly during the southwest monsoon.

Such adverse weather conditions have caused trees to uproot, roofs to be torn off, and heavy debris falling onto houses, causing immense damage. The squally weather during monsoon also causes extensive damage to crop in some islands and presents challenges for seafarers and fishermen as well. Some islands have been experiencing swell waves surges during high tides as well.
