President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that the government believes every citizen must be equal and deserve the same rights, protection and privileges without discrimination.

He made this remark during his fifth presidential address, delivered during the inaugural sitting of the People’s Majlis on Monday morning.

Delivering his annual address to the parliament, President Solih noted that presently, the responsibility of governance in the country is based on having a vision, making promises and fulfilling the promises made, while giving the highest priority to the most urgent needs to the people.

He said that if the peace and societal harmony of the country has been compromised, the government should first restore it.

The president stated that the administration’s most pressing obligation must be to preserver the societal harmony maintained over the past four years, which has not been done in the past.

Stressing that peace, stability, and harmony can be maintained by listening, consulting, and making compromises on specific things while persistently holding to fundamental beliefs and values, President Solih highlighted that every citizen is a strong citizen before the government, including the rights to be fulfilled, the responsibilities to be carried out and the services to be provided.

President Solih further stated that the unprecedented peace and stability his administration has achieved and maintained, was due to its adherence to nationalistic and Islamic fundamental values.

He added that the communities nationwide believe that the government, formed by the people, remains steadfast in its commitment to serve the citizens.

Pledging to deliver extensive reforms, the president highlighted that the motivation for these changes was to transform, improve, and alleviate the livelihoods of communities nationwide as well as to bring prosperity to all citizens without discrimination.

Stressing that the most previous resource of a country is its young, educated workforce, he noted that investing in future generations will ensure the continued success of Maldives.

President Solih went on to announce that the preparation of 6,000 skilled workers for the job market is underway presently.

During his presidential address, the president also shed light on the details of efforts to train youth for the labor market, as well as the widespread efforts to establish junior colleges, TVET centers, and polytechnic centers.
