Solih receives invitation to visit Addu City
Addu City has decided to present an award to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih in recognition of his efforts to strengthen the decentralized system.
This was revealed by the city's Mayor, Ali Nizar, during a meeting with President Solih on Tuesday.
The meeting, held at the former President's Office, was also attended by some councilors from Addu City.
During the meeting, the Mayor of Addu City invited President Solih to visit the city.
President Solih has accepted the invitation.
Mayor Nizar stated that the Addu City Council and its citizens, representing the largest population outside of the capital Malé City, appreciate President Solih's service towards the development of Addu City.
In the meeting, President Solih expressed concern about the current government's efforts to "dismantle" the decentralized system.
At an event held in Magoodhoo island of Faafu atoll on Sunday night to inaugurate some developments made by the island council, President Solih said that the next government will be of the now-main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), and that MDP will restore the empowerment previously given to the councils.
