Two individuals have been arrested and remanded in connection with drug operations conducted by the Maldives Police Service (MPS).
MPS on Sunday revealed that the two drug operations were carried out in Villingili island of Gaaf Alif atoll and Rasdhoo island of Alif Alif atoll.
The drug operation in Villingili island stemmed from an intel report that an island resident was in possession of drugs.
During the operation conducted on January 18, a 32-year-old Maldivian man was arrested.
Officers seized 36 rubber packets stuffed with suspected narcotics, on him.
Upon being presented to the Villingili Magistrate Court for his remand hearing, the man was given a 15-day remand period and is to be remanded at a facility allocated by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Further, the drug operation in Rasdhoo stemmed from an intel report received at the Police Intelligence Unit, that drugs were being smuggled into the island.
The operation was conducted jointly by officers of the intel unit as well as Rasdhoo Police Station on January 20.
A 43-year-old was arrested in connection with the case. Officers confiscated a rubber packet filled with suspected drugs, on the suspect.
Upon being presented to the Rasdhoo Magistrate Court for his remand hearing, the man was given a 15-day remand period and is to be remanded at a facility allocated by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Both cases are currently under further investigations.
