The Government of India has gifted two sea ambulances to the Government of Maldives.
The sea ambulances were handed over during the special ceremony held in Manadhoo Island of Noonu Atoll to exchange key agreements between Maldives and India.
The two sea ambulances gifted by India are facilitated under the High Impact Community Development Project Scheme, as a means of broadening the capacity and responsiveness of emergency medical services throughout the Maldives.
The symbolic token was received by Deputy Minister of Defence, Hassan Zameel from the High Commissioner of India, Munu Mahawar.
India has previously procured the Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) with a vessel to ease transportation issues and increase the capacity of Maldives Correctional Service to undertake its responsibilities in serving the community.
This was also a project that was taken under the grant assistance scheme of MVR 106 million granted to the Government of Maldives by the Government of India during the visit of the Minister of External Affairs of India in March 2019.
The vessel procured with the financial support of the Indian Government was handed over to MCS in October 2022.
