Visa and Mastercard payments have been integrated for RTL buses operated by MTCC


BML enables RTL bus payments for Mastercard and Visa cards
Bank of Maldives (BML) has enabled payments for Raajje Transport Link (RTL) buses operated by Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), through Mastercard and Visa cards.
The country’s national bank made the announcement on Tuesday, revealing that Visa and Mastercard payments have been integrated for RTL buses operated by MTCC, with which passengers on RTL Malé City bus networks may now use contactless Mastercard and Visa card including those issued by BML, for fare payments on the ticket validators.
In addition to card payments, BML revealed that bus and ferry tickets have been made available for purchase on the RTL Mobile App.
BML’s MD Karl Stumke revealed that the bank will continue to collaborate with their partners to introduce additional payment methods.
Further, Mastercard’s Country Manager in Sri Lanka and Maldives, Sandun Hapugoda remarked that Mastercard has been working towards simplifying daily commuting in many cities around the globe and is proud to bring this wealth of experience to upgrade Maldives transit.
MTCC currently accepts fare payment methods for the RTL bus service of cash payments, paper tickets directly from RTL Malé buses and atoll regions, online payments, account-based ticketing through Mastercard and Visa branded contactless debit or credit card payments alongside the newly introduced Tap to Pay.
MTCC revealed that with the contactless tap to pay option has commenced for bus networks in the capital region, the service will soon be introduced in other atoll regions as well.
The company went onto reveal that the RTL schedule and route map have been made accessible on the RTL website and travel app.
Customers may also access the apps’ live-tracking feature to find the location of MTCC buses.
