Two individuals have been arrested for their involvement in the widespread illegal trade of unverified USD.
The Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that the two were arrested from Hulhumalé, some time on Wednesday.
The arrests were made during an operation conducted jointly by the MPS Economic Crime Department and the Police Intelligence Unit.
Arrested during the operation were two Maldivian men, 23 and 24. The two men were arrested from the streets of Hulhumalé.
Upon being presented to the Hulhumalé Magistrate Court for their remand hearing, the court remanded them by five days, at a facility to be allocated by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The case is currently being investigated by the Economic Crime Department.
