The scouting movement teaches valuable life skills that are beneficial to society, says Vice President Faisal Naseem.

He made this remark in his speech at the ceremony to launch the Jamboree on the Air and Jamboree on the Internet (JOTA-JOTI) 2022, held at Aminiya School on Saturday.

Taking the podium at the event, VP Naseem shed light on the benefits of the lessons taught through the scouting movement to the society as well as the nation as a whole.

He noted that the movement had evolved without monotony and expressed hope that the jamboree commenced on Saturday would enable and promote comradeship among scouts across the Maldives as well as those abroad.

VP Naseem went on to touch down on the values taught through the scouting movement and stated that it teaches children about responsibility and respect, amongst other valuable life lessons.

In his speech, VP Naseem also spoke regarding the significance of economizing, proper waste management as well as the importance of keeping the environment clean.

The ceremony saw the vice president sending a message over amateur radio to the 16th Colombo Scout Group stationed in Colombo, Sri Lanka, to officially launch JOTA-JOTI 2022 which is the largest scouting event across the globe.

JOTA-JOTI 2022 is being conducted over the internet and the air and brings together more than two million scouts spanning 172 countries.

The event is being held from October 14 – 16 and carries the purpose of supporting young people in acquiring knowledge about communications technology, the values of global citizenship as well as their role in creating a better world.
