The incumbent administration of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih is committed to ensure its decisions reflect the needs of island communities, says Vice President Faisal Naseem.
VP Naseem said this during a meeting with the members of the council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) of Dhuvaafaru Island in Raa atoll as part of his six-island tour of the atoll.
The meeting saw the vice president briefed on the most pertinent needs of the island community which mainly include the challenges and issues faced by the education and healthcare sectors, especially human resources development.
The island councilors stated that the fishing community has been facing challenges in acquiring ice, going on to note that the island community is in dire need for banking services.
Dhuvaafaru WDC members spoke about the need for training funeral staff during the meeting.
Listening to these concerns, VP Naseem stated that the administration remains committed to work closely with island communities and ensure decisions reflect the needs of these communities.
VP Naseem assured the island council and WDC members that the administration is committed to complete the development initiatives, adding that the administration will work towards finding amicable solutions to the issues raised at the meeting.
The meeting was followed by a meeting with the management and staff of public offices and institutions of the island where discussions revolved around the need for an outdoor library, vocational education and training programmes and budget constraints.
The need to improve policing services and shortages of staff and resource at the Family and Children’s Service Centre were also topics of discussion.
VP Naseem also visited Dhuvaafaru health center and met with staff and inquired about its operations.
