The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has revealed that they are closely monitoring the situation of the Maldivians currently residing in Bangalore, India, following reports of serious destruction due to flooding.
In a message to media on Tuesday, the foreign ministry revealed that they remain aware that the Whitefield, Bellandur, Marathahalli, Yemalur, Koramangala, HSR Layout, HAL II Stage, Indiranagar, HBR Layout areas are “heavily” affected with waterlogging.
The ministry went on to cite the meteorological department of the neighboring country to have predicated the rain to continue for another 24 hours.
Further, they revealed that they are trying to learn if any Maldivians have been affected, in collaboration with the Maldivian High Commission in New Delhi, as well as through efforts of Honorary Consulate General of Maldives in Bangalore.
With this being said, the ministry assured that they are closely monitoring the situation and that the high commission is attempting to reach out to those who have been registered in the city.
With the efforts underway, the ministry has urged those who have been registered to reach out to the high commission through +919910040786 or HCGM +918022972754.
Maldivians residing in Bangalore have been urged to keep close contact with the High Commission in the case the situation changes.
For now, the ministry has reported that Maldivians who have reached out, are reportedly safe.
The ministry has revealed that further updates will be disclosed to the media, as the situation unfolds.
This comes at a time Bangalore has been experiencing heavy rain fall, which has caused the streets of the city to flood heavily. The flood waters are evidently entering households and in turn damaging household property. Further, the heavy rain and flooding has also led to disruption of electricity service in some areas of the city.
